Match Report

A promising start to the new season with a good performance and a great game.  Everyone played really well, resulting in some great football.  It was clear from the first quarter that the teams were evenly matched.  SWCFC created some chances, but the defenders were good at putting them under pressure and Lucas in goal wasn’t troubled.  EYFC looked dangerous, with periods of concerted pressure, but ultimately had nothing to show for it.  Onto the second quarter and the game followed a similar pattern.  Eventually the excellent endeavour was rewarded.  The combative Frankie showed some silky skills to beat two players before passing the ball into Albie’s path, who took the ball on with his first touch before burying a right footed shot into the bottom left hand corner.  At the turn EYFC were a goal to the good, but both quarters had been played downhill and therefore the last half would be a test.  Onto the third quarter and we managed to score another.  Some great play between Thomas and William saw a hugely impressive one-two split open the defence and put William through.  He duly buried a great shot past the keeper and EYFC were looking comfortable.  Unfortunately, the old adage of you are at your most vulnerable when you score was to prove true and SWCFC almost immediately halved the deficit when some pinball resulted in the ball falling to their striker who was able to score from close range.  Further chances were created, but SWCFC were in the ascendancy and only some brilliant saves by Lucas kept the EYFC’s noses in front.  Onto the last quarter and the team continued to try and play, even on their own goalline!  SWCFC again had most of the possession, but it was great to see the determination that the team showed to come away with a result.  SWCFC managed to level the scores with a well taken goal from the angle, but could they pinch it?  They would have done had it not been for some superb team defending and a great point blank save from Mia that secured the point.  EYFC continued to create chances, but without working the SWCFC goalkeeper.  Honours even, which was a fair reflection.  Player of the match was awarded to Samuel, who was like a terrier throughout, but in fairness it could have been given to any of them as they were all fantastic.  Hopefully we can continue in the same vein through the season.  Well done everyone.
