Match Report

Rob Warry very kindly stepped in for me this week (hence the lack of any detail in this report) in what was an anticipated game against opposition that are usually an even match and so it was.  We started the game uphill and there was plenty of room as SWCFC played with a forward high up the pitch and for periods we struggled to make sure we were goal side.  We revelled in the space and played some lovely football, showing real bravery on the ball to pass or dribble the ball from anywhere on the pitch.  Some better choices on whether to shoot or pass could have seen greater reward, but Henry give the team an early lead with a good strike from distance.  Onto the second quarter and another tight affair saw the scores levelled when SWCFC equalised.  The third quarter, however, saw Elsenham rewarded with three goals.  Firstly Flynn, who was showing real purpose in beating players, was able to score from a Patrick assist.  Patrick, who was playing as the forward this quarter, then capitalised on a pass from Alex and got his second (the team’s fourth) from a pass from Rhys in central midfield (one of these goals rounding off a great team move).  There was now clear daylight between the teams, but it didn’t stay that way.  In the final quarter SWCFC scored three goals without reply to level the scores.  Thankfully, character has never been a problem for this team and a cross shot from Flynn found the far corner of the net, giving Elsenham the victory.  Rob, who hasn’t seen many of these players since they were under 8s, was hugely impressed with how they had improved.  He also commented on the quality of the football that was played.  As has been the case in recent weeks, anyone could have won player of the match, but it was awarded to Patrick who had a great all-round game.  Well done everyone.
