Match Report

Some inside knowledge on this weeks’ opponent meant that we were able to shuffle the pack a little differently to usual.  Henry started in goal, with Alex and Daniel in front of him.  A midfield of Frankie (left, until replaced by Samuel), Mia (centre) and Patrick (right, until replaced by Flynn) were in midfield and Rhys started up front until Albie came on for him.  From the off we were the stronger side, with Alex able to play his (now customary) roaming defensive role - facilitated by some discipline from Daniel by holding his position - and it was Alex that started the scoring, with a tidy finish having been put through after a good run and pass by Frankie.  Despite almost total dominance, it was not until the changes were made that the score was extended, when Flynn passed a ball to Albie 6 yards out and a miss-hit finish fooled everyone and ended up in the back of the net.  The scoring for the quarter concluded when a Samuel corner was blocked, but fell to the feet of Flynn, who duly scored.  It was agreed that the opposition could field some extra players to make the game more competitive and at times we played against 10.  This made for a more even match though and kicking up the hill, despite much greater possession, we were unable to extend the lead within the second quarter (which saw Flynn in the unfamiliar role of goalkeeper, where he did very well).  Onto the third quarter and the scoring recommenced.  Albie played as a sweeper keeper with Patrick and Frankie in front of him.  Mia (left, until replaced by Alex), Rhys (centre) and Samuel (right, until replaced by Daniel) formed the midfield with Henry and then Flynn as the strikers.  Our first of this quarter was scored when Henry won the ball in the middle of the pitch before advancing and scoring a great individual goal.  A second was scored when Frankie advanced with the ball into midfield and passed the ball to Henry, who got his second of the game with a good finish from the left channel.  A third followed when Rhys was tackled by the SWCFC goalkeeper, but the ball fell to Alex showed good composure to bide his time before scoring.  Finally, Frankie made it a hattrick of assists - dovetailing well with Patrick - when he again advanced into midfield and played the ball to Rhys at the near post to score.  Onto the final quarter and the game followed a similar pattern to before.  Kicking up the hill Samuel was protected by Flynn and Mia.  Albie (left, until replaced by Henry), Patrick (centre) and Rhys (right, until replaced by Alex) made up the midfield with Daniel and then Frankie up front.  The only goal of this quarter saw Henry pass the ball to Alex, who continued his recent hot streak with an excellent finish.  Overall, a very good performance.  The SWCFC goal led a charmed life, with some good goalkeeping and the metalwork stopping the score being greater.  Any of the players could have been given player of the match, but it was given to Frankie for a great exhibition of all aspects of the game, as well as providing 3 assists.
