Match Report

Today we entertained Burwell - a team that we used to play regularly that we have never beaten, although I am not sure how!  Unfortunately, that run continues.  In fairness, they played very well today and fully deserved their victory.  Two important lessons that I hope will be learnt today - people play in positions for a reason and if the opposition want to win more than you do there is a very good chance they will!  First half we kicked downhill.  From the start we weren’t quite with it, with Henry (one of our defenders) taking the kickoff!  Henry was one of our main threats, with some good runs from defence, but a heavy cold meant that he wasn’t able to recover his position as he usually would and this left us short in defence.  Burwell were also a team that made use of the no offside rule, which we didn’t adapt to.  We created chances, but so did our opposition and they were far more clinical when they came along, despite Joseph’s best efforts, twice troubling the scorers.  Kicking uphill in the second half was always going to make a comeback difficult and we went further behind before our best move of the game saw Rhys play a beautiful through ball to Alfie, who ran through and finished well.  The next chance also fell to us, but we couldn’t take it and an unexpected come back was foiled when Burwell restored the three goal cushion.  Overall, a disappointing morning, but Burwell were simply the better team on the day.  Everyone did alright, but player of the match was awarded to Alfie who was very good.  On and forth.
