Elsenham's winning run came to an end against a well organised and determined Stotfold side.
The opening spell was very even as both sides tested each other out, Elsenham had a couple of half chances but couldn't apply the finishing touch.
However it was Stotfold who opened the scoring on 10 minutes when Elsenham gifted them a soft goal, the defence failed to clear and the Stotfold striker was only too happy to take advantage, 0 - 1. Barely a minute had passed and Stotfold were two up, again a mix up in defence resulted in a needless goal, 0 - 2.
Four minutes later the ref awarded a penalty to Stotfold after a clumsy challenge in the penalty area, the striker hit the ball hard and low giving the keeper no chance, 0 - 3.
Elsenham had a number a good attacking moves and Kyle Kersey had a great opportunity to pull a goal back however the Stotfold keeper made a great save from close range.
Just before half time the ref awarded a second penalty to Stotfold for a handball in the area, again the striker made no mistake with his spot kick, 0 - 4.
The first half ended with a scoreline that didn't seem to reflect the run of play, a few lapses of concentration proved costly.
Elsenham looked a different side in the second half and were playing with more urgency and spirit. After only 3 minutes Billy Abery scored a superb goal, collecting the ball on the edge of the box he dribbled past two defenders and bent the ball round the diving keeper, 1 - 4.
Elsenham pushed forward with wave after wave of attacks and were unlucky not to score more goals. Stotfold hit Elsenham on the break towards the end of the match to make the final score 1 - 6.
Man of the match was awarded to Sam White for a an excellent defensive display ..... well done !!

Score:
Elsenham 2-1 BSCFC United
A superb all round performance against the league leaders, Bishops Stortford Utd, saw Elsenham record their 3rd successive victory.
In a game that resembled a cup tie both sides battled hard to secure the 3 points however Elsenham had a steely determination to evenge their 6-2 defeat against Stortford earlier in the season.
The opening spell of the game was very even with both sides being caught offside a number of times, however it was Elsenham who opened the score on 13 minutes with a long range shot from new signing Luke felton, 1 - 0.
Barely a couple of minutes had passed before Utd levelled the score, Elsenham failed to clear the danger from the box and Utd shot hard and low to make it 1 - 1.
The game was pulsating end to end action with some neat flowing football and crunching tackles, both sides went in at half time to the warm applause of the spectators.
The second half opened as the first with attacking football, Elsenham had several opportunities to score which somehow Utd manage to prevent. Utd also looked dangerous on the break and played the long ball through the middle to their strikers, the Elsenham defence had to be alert.
To the relief of the home support Elsenham increased the score to 2 - 1, Luke Felton hit a long range shot which the Utd keeper fumbled and the ball crept over the line.
This set up a nail biting climax to the match, Utd threw more players forward in a desperate attempt to nick an equaliser, Elsenham held firm and when the ref blew the whistle for full time the boys (and home crowd) went wild.
Man of the match was awarded to Josh Widdowson for a very solid perfomance in defence ...well done !!

Score:
Elsenham 6-4 Letchworth Oranges
Scorers:

On a sunny but windy day the Elsenham boys must have had a hearty breakfast as they started much the stronger side. From the moment the whistle blew they took the game to Letchworth and within minutes had a number of chances and corners. After four minutes Kyle went mightily close with a well struck shot. The team pushed forwards and on 14 minutes Charles’s shot was stopped only by a good save from the Letchworth keeper. Seven minutes later Tom struck a left foot shot which once again was saved well by the keeper.
Elsenham were passing the ball around and playing some great football. Despite desperate defending by the visitors the inevitable happened. On 22 minutes a great out-swinging corner from George Roberts was met by Sam who calmly slotted the ball into the net. Just two minutes later Billy dribbled past a number of defenders and fired a left foot shot which just missed the goal. Two minutes later another chance fell this time to Tom whose well struck shot was saved by the Goalkeeper. With a lost ball & some injuries, time was ticking on with the score still at 1-0. Then on 34 minutes Elsenham were awarded a free kick. Charles took it, passed to Tom who then set up Kyle to score Elsenham’s second goal. Just two minutes later Tom was put through and scored with a firm right foot shot into the corner, making it 3-0.
Elsenham went in at half time with a feeling that they should have converted more of the many chances they made.
During the second half with the wind against Elsenham, Letchworth started the brighter team. Some early pressure from the visitors coupled with some poor defending from Elsenham led to an easy goal after 10 minutes making the score 3-1. This seemed to rally Elsenham and just three minutes later Kyle slotted the ball into the net but was ruled off side. Seven minutes later though Kyle had another chance. With a superbly weighted shot the ball was held up by the wind and dropped over the keeper into the goal. (4-1). On 22 minutes George Roberts broke free but his shot was well saved by the keeper.
However, unlike the first half, Elsenham came under sustained pressure from the visitors. As Elsenham pressed forwards gaps appeared in Elsenham’s midfield and defence. Letchworth scored next (4-2) and if not for some alert and brave goal keeping from George Mortimer, Letchworth could easily have scored on a number of further occasions. On 27 minutes though Letchworth scored taking the score to 4-3. With much relief from the Elsenham supporters, Kyle scored his hat trick on 30 minutes to make it 5-3. The game swung back to Letchworth though when they scored their fourth goal. With injury time it was not until the 38 minute that Elsenham secured the win with a final goal this time from George Roberts. A thoroughly entertaining match with lots of good passing from Elsenham but some work to do defensively before the next match.

An encouraging start to the new season saw a positive Elsenham Youth U12 team brush Buntingford aside with a comfortable 4 - 1 victory.
Straight from the kick off EYFC looked hungry and applied pressure on the Buntingford defence with some neat passing and clever footwork. Buntingford struggled to cope with EYFC's 4 - 3 - 3 attacking formation and inevitably the 1st goal went to the home side. On 7 minutes, last season's top scorer, Kyle Kersey, broke free and scored a great opening goal slotting the ball low past the oncoming goalkeeper. Kyle had clearly spent the summer practising his goal celebrations as he performed a near perfect cartwheel.
EYFC had several more chances before Kyle Kersey scored again on 17 minutes to make it 2 - 0, good work from Harry Pratt who threaded a lovely pass to Kyle who made no mistake from just outside the 6 yard box.
On 20 minutes George Roberts made it 3 - 0, George collected the ball on the left side and sprinted forward towards goal shooting hard across the goalkeeper into the right hand side of the net, a lovely finish.
More pressure and several more chances fell to the home side, however they were unable to extend their lead.
The second half proved to be much more even as Buntingford looked much sharper and organised, they began to pressure the Elsenham goal and had a number of chances to score. On 40 minutes after some heavy pressure Buntingford scored much to the delight of the visiting supporters. The Elsenham players were looking tired after their impressive first half performance and Buntingford could sense a possible way back into the game.
Buntingford were clearly encouraged by the goal and pushed forward in search of another, however on 52 minutes Thomas Horton made the game safe with the final goal of the match to make it 4 - 1. The Elsenham goalkeeper, George Mortimer, made an impressive clearance which found its way through to Thomas who sprinted forward and cooly dispatched a low unstoppable shot to the left of the keeper.
All in all a very positive start to the season with a good all round performance from the whole team. Player of the match was new signing Jordan Ditchburn who gave an impressive performance, showing his quality and fitness - well done.
